ecoMachines: the making of artificial ecologies. In an age of unprecedented interaction between the natural and the artificial realms we are confronted with the necessity to develop instruments of transformation equipped with an embedded capacity of constant adaptation and self evaluation. As nature is becoming more and more hybridized with embedded artificiality, the ethical paradigm of natural conservation is progressively losing its value and needs to be replaced with more adaptive mechanisms of management and direct evaluation of the effects of human transformation of natural ecosystems; we call this mechanisms ecoMachines.

The second event in a new workshop series organized by Simply Rhino and run by ecoLogicStudio in London.The workshop aim is to deliver a design oriented Grasshopper training for professional architects, landscape, product and urban designers.

ecoLogicStudio was invited to exhibit work in the 2009-2011 Advanced Architecture Settimo Tokyo Biennale.FunCloud Pavillion will be exhibited from 7 April to 17 May 2009 in Turin, Italy. 'aast is a group of events intended to spread Generative Computational Design, becoming an Advanced Architectural Research International Exhibition. aast gives the opportunity to professionals and students to test a new approach to design, using innovatory tools. aast is a survey of researches on new generations of architects oriented to understand the huge transformation of contemporary architecture perspectives. aast’s aim is the promotion of 3D parametric software, which is able to integrate all the building components and data into one parametric model. All the building information becomes highly manageable throughout all the design and construction phases. aast deals with the parametric software brand-new trend as generating design and extending design creativity. Supported by our ever-incresing computational power today we can feel, mesure, read and visualize complexity, where before we perceived it intuitively, philosophically. As a result a new relationship between architecture and science has emerged that is material and, ultimatly, prototypical. This symposium presents a variety of material approaches, indicating strands of research that are redefining the relationship not only between science and architecture but also between architecture and architects themselves. Inspired by Youniverse exhibition in Seville and by AA research work, it is co-ordinated by Marie-Ange Brayer (FRAC CenterOrleans) and Claudia Pasquero (AAInter10/ecoLogicStudio). Light Wall by ecoLogicStudio has been shortlisted for AJ Small Projects Awards for 2009. The Light Wall reinterprets the traditional “massive” Italian wall as a thick concrete sponge, whose ability to absorb and alter heat, light and view can be changed and adapted to contextual requirements and is one of 24 projects from across the UK to have made the shortlist. The project will be exhibited at New London Architecture and other venues around the UK throughout the year, as well as feature in the architecture journal, the AJ. The overall winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on the 4th of February.

AAInter10 and ecoLogicStudio in collaboration with the CAAC Seville, FRAC Center director Marie Ange Brayer and Sevilel University have planned a week long ecoMachinic Parade in Seville and Barcelona. Highlights of the week are: a visit to the Seville 3rd Art and Architecture biennale youniverse with curator Marie Ange Brayer, a symposium featuring, among others, the work of idLAB and ecoLogicStudio (Tuesday 9 December) and a three-day international students workshop "evolutonary playgrounds" with Seville University
